Dear NHPS High School Families,
We hope you are having a great spring as we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year. We want to share some important news about high school bus service. We recently looked at how many students ride the bus each day. What we found was that only 35% of high school students use a district bus on a typical school day. That means most buses are running well below capacity.
As part of our district’s Path to Excellence, we are always looking for ways to save money and use resources wisely. When we save money on transportation, we can put those dollars back into classrooms — for teachers, programs, and students. To do that, we are changing how bus service works for high school students.
Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, high school bus service will move to an opt-in system. This means you will need to sign up for a bus. Bus seats will be given only to families who ask for them. This will help us run the right number of buses for the students who actually need them.
Official Notice — Opt-In Transportation System
To get an assigned bus for the 2026–2027 school year, you must fill out the opt-in survey. You can find the survey link below. Students who sign up must agree to ride the bus at least three (3) times per week.
Once you sign up, you will get an email with your school bus information, including your stop and pickup time; this email will come in mid-August. If you do not fill out the survey, you will not have bus service for the 2026–2027 school year.

If you miss the June 18th deadline and sign up after, you will be placed at an existing stop on an existing route. Requests for a stop that is closer to your home will not be accepted.
If you have questions, please contact the NHPS Transportation Office at (475) 220-1601.
